Comments : Its exceptional situation makes an exceptional temple of it. Located at the border between Kampuchea and Thailand , it is asserted by the two countries, to the detriment of the temple itself which would deserve large work of restoration.
As often in Khmer art, this temple is the result of a mixture of style and a great architectural confusion.
It would have been built into three stage: first of all, a small temple located all in top of the mountain, then a series of stages connected by monumental staircases and finally the temple itself of which the most remarkable remainder the gigantic point of view, which symbolizes the domination of the Khmer people in the neighbourhoods of the XII° century.
Accessible from Kampuchea , by a small road of seven kilometres which climbs like a staircase and for which it is necessary to count a good hour and half of walk.
The inhabitants of the village located at the foot of the mountain propose their services to accompany the visitors in the motor bike or 4x4.
Lodging and food are very rudimentary, with the limit of the acceptable one, the maniacs and meticulous persons will have to bring their refrigerator and their picnic.
The visit can be done in one day from Siem Reap, or in two days by combining Preah Vihar with the visit of Koh Ker for example.
The entrance fee is 2,5 dollars.

Commentaire : Sa situation exceptionnelle en fait un temple exceptionnel. Situé à la frontière entre le Cambodge et la Thaïlande, il est revendiqué par les deux pays, au détriment du temple lui-même qui mériterait de gros travaux de rénovation.
Comme souvent dans l'art Khmer, ce temple est le résultat d'un mélange de styles et d'une grande confusion architecturale.
Il aurait été construit en trois étape : tout d'abord, un petit temple situé tout en haut de la montagne, puis une série de paliers reliés par des escaliers monumentaux et enfin le temple lui-même dont le plus remarquable reste le point de vue gigantesque, qui symbolise la domination du peuple Khmer aux alentours du XII° siècle.
Accessible depuis le Cambodge, par une petite route de sept kilomètres qui grimpe comme un escalier et pour laquelle il faut compter une bonne heure et demie de marche.
Les habitants du village situé au pied de la montagne proposent leurs services pour accompagner les visiteurs en moto ou en 4x4.
L'hébergement et la nourriture sont très rudimentaires, à la limite de l'acceptable, les maniaques et méticuleux devront apporter leur glacière et leur pique-nique.
La visite peut se faire en une journée au départ de Siem Reap, ou en deux jours en combinant Preah Vihar avec la visite de Koh Ker par exemple.
Le droit d'entrée est de 2,5 dollars.
